Notes toward an inquiry
What would
we need
to know?
Begin with what matters.
Whose experience is being considered? What do we want to understand, and why?
Frame the question
State what the work is trying to understand, whose perspective it includes, and why the question matters.
Make the method legible
Explain how material is gathered and interpreted, so a reader can follow the reasoning.
Keep the limits visible
Distinguish an observation from an inference, and an intended outcome from a measured result.
Return knowledge to public life
Give the work a form that others can read, question, use, and return to.
